Agra was the capital of the Mughal Empire during the reign of Shah Jahan and perhaps that's why he chose Agra to built the Taj Mahal. Built in white marble, the Taj Mahal is flanked by four minarets and mosques on each side. The four gardens in front of the Taj Mahal are divided by four waterways that meet in a pool at the centre.The site of the Taj Mahal is such that one can see the Agra Red Fort from the Taj Mahal. Agra has got a strategic location and hence is easily reachable by all the three modes of transport i.e. air, rail and road.
